Truck drivers have been warned that dirty trucks
can cause safety risks .
According to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator of Australia, dirt on
truck parts can mean that dangerous
defects are missed during visual safety inspections .
The supervisor emphasized the importance of periodic cleaning, so that
nothing is missed during visual inspections. Trucks and their parts must be clean, free from
soot, dirt, mud and lubricants.
The regulator wants to make it clear to truck drivers and inspectors that not
cleaning a vehicle can hide or mask problems that may result in
repairs and maintenance not being carried out.
This warning was issued in Australia, but applies worldwide.
If a truck is not clean before you start a safety inspection, you must
postpone the checks and start scrubbing!
