Austria has returned to its promise and has announced an increase in toll rates for Euro 6 trucks.
Despite the fact that he insured the public differently, the Austrian Transport Minister announced the decision to increase the toll for trucks of Euro 6 standard by 4%. This change is expected to come into effect at the beginning of 2020.
Does anyone still believe what politicians say today?
Günther Reder, president of the Association of Freight Transport at the Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ) has described this step as “regrettable”.
As if to rub salt in the wound, the increase will be double the local inflation rate. According to Reder: “With an average annual inflation of 2% in 2018, the toll for the most environmentally friendly Euro 6 trucks on the market will increase by around 4%.”
Reder explained that the reason why the rates are being increased is because the revenue from the motorway toll is falling. Now that fewer lorries meet lower emission standards on the roads, it has been decided to increase the rates for vehicles with higher emission standards.
We are crazy if we politicians still believe their word.
